“You are funny” Asamoah Gyan reveals chat with Essien before scoring against Chelsea

The first time I got there I called Essien, I told him I am going to score against Chelsea. We had a conversation and he was welcoming me to England as a friend. I didn’t know what came to my mind and I told him I am going to score against Chelsea,” Gyan told Asaase Radio.

“He was like you are funny! So we started laughing on the phone. During the week I said this is the time let’s see. And I scored the second goal.”

Asamoah Gyan starred as Sunderland thumped Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on November 14, 2010.

The 36-year-old striker shared a close bond with Castro which led to Gyan composing various hit songs with the latter.

Their close-knit friendship was, however, short-circuited by an unfortunate incident which led to the disappearance of Castro while on holiday, on July 6 2014.
